The Canine Body: Understand Your Dog's Body Through Science and Touch
Saturday 31rst May 2025 - 9am to 12pm on Zoom - 2pm to 4pm at Westdene Barn BN1 5EE Brighton
Join us for an immersive, hands-on workshop designed to deepen your understanding of your dog’s anatomy and enhance their well-being. “The Canine Body” combines the science of canine anatomy with practical techniques like gait analysis and an introduction to massage to help you connect with your dog on a deeper level.
What to Expect:
3-Hour Theory Session (Zoom) – In the morning, we’ll start with a comprehensive theory session via Zoom, where you'll learn the fundamentals of canine anatomy and physiology. Additionally, we’ll cover static and gait analysis techniques, helping you understand how to assess your dog’s posture, body alignment at rest, and how they move. You’ll also learn how to palpate a dog’s body effectively, allowing you to identify areas of tension, discomfort, or potential injury. To round out the session, we’ll introduce the theory behind canine massage, including its benefits, the basic principles of touch, and how it can support your dog’s overall health and recovery.
2-Hour In-Person Practical Session (Westdene barn - BN1 5EE - Brighton) – In the afternoon, bring your dog for an interactive, hands-on session. Working directly with your dog, you'll apply the knowledge gained in the morning session. You'll practice gait analysis, perform palpation on your dog to identify areas of tension or discomfort, and learn basic massage techniques to improve circulation, relieve tension, and support your dog’s overall health.
This workshop is perfect for dog owners, trainers, and anyone looking to better understand and support their dog’s health and movement. By blending scientific knowledge with practical, hands-on experience, you’ll leave feeling empowered and equipped to care for your dog’s body in a more informed and holistic way.
Please note: This session is designed for non-reactive dogs, as it involves hands-on interaction and close contact. Dogs will need to remain calm in a room for 2 hours with up to 5 other unknown dogs. A separate session will be planned for nervous or reactive dogs in the next few weeks.
